15 Months of Tinnitus with No Improvement, Except for Occasional Good Days in a Row

At this point, it has been 16 months, and I never imagined that a three-second sound in my AirPods could change my life like this. Every day I wake up not knowing what the day will be like. Around 40 percent of the month my tinnitus is tolerable, but about 60 percent of the time it is more...

Irregular Low-Frequency Hum After Infection: Steady in Silence, Chaotic with Sound

I have a loud, annoying low-frequency hum around 100–200 Hz in my left ear. It started about four months ago after a systemic infection that affected my ears. I likely have some damage from this. The infection caused high-frequency loss, and although I also had measurable low-frequency drops...

Tinnitus After a Smack in the Ear, Perilymphatic Fistula, Blood Patch Treatment, Advice?

Hi @scotty03874, I hope your tinnitus has improved. I also had a slap to the ear from a wave while surfing. I experienced aural fullness and tinnitus immediately afterward. The fullness went away after about four months. No one mentioned a PLF to me at the time, but some 18 months later, after...

I May Be Counting My Chickens — Hopeful Progress in My Tinnitus Journey

August Update (05/09/2025) A short update, as not too much has been happening. I have moved out of my parents’ home now that university is finished, and I feel optimistic about what life in my new flat will bring. It is noisier with neighbors and general background sounds, so it has been harder...

Am I the Unluckiest Person on Earth When It Comes to Tinnitus? My 6-Year Tinnitus Nightmare: How One Festival Changed My Life

Hi folks! Just a little update about my situation. I have been taking only 7.5 mg of Mirtazapine to sleep for a week now. Before that, I was taking up to 45 mg (the maximum dose) and then gradually reduced it to the minimum dose. I can clearly see a difference. My sleep is not as catastrophic...

Seven Months with Sound-Induced Tinnitus: Is Anyone Seeing Improvements or Finding Hope?

That is awful. I’m so sorry that happened to you. If I had read some of these stories about hearing tests making tinnitus worse, I don’t think I ever would have gone through with one. The same goes for ear irrigation. Now I find myself wondering if I delayed my own healing by having both of...

I noticed that NervGen’s pipeline page currently shows nothing related to hearing loss. Could we assume that if their current trial on treating spinal cord injury with NVG-291 goes well, there will likely be efforts to investigate the same drug for other uses?

I'm not disturbed at all that Trump is getting a roasting in the European press. How to Manage Reactive Tinnitus Setback?

Given your current mental state, judging from what you write, that is definitely the correct decision for now. My advice would be to seek professional help sooner rather than later. Are there any counselors in your area who specialize in tinnitus, hyperacusis, CBT, or similar approaches?

My guess is that this is temporary, as we are talking about a high dose for one day rather than over time. Time will tell. Give it another two to six weeks, and try not to think the worst. I believe there is a good chance it will calm down to baseline again.

Seven Months with Sound-Induced Tinnitus: Is Anyone Seeing Improvements or Finding Hope?

The biggest determinant of how fast you will heal is how quickly you return to normal sleeping patterns. Since April of this year, I have been suffering from an acoustic shock caused by a high-frequency hearing test that exposed me to 12,000 Hertz at 90 decibels. This turned my mild to...

Seven Months with Sound-Induced Tinnitus: Is Anyone Seeing Improvements or Finding Hope?

100%. I totally agree with most of what you write here, but I am confused about what you mean by healing. Most people who develop bothersome tinnitus, and go beyond the six-month mark or more, usually will not become completely tinnitus free. The majority will still have tinnitus, and they will...

Seven Months with Sound-Induced Tinnitus: Is Anyone Seeing Improvements or Finding Hope?

I think more people experience complete or nearly complete resolution after the six-month mark than we realize. Well, no. That is not what I am saying. There is no magic bullet you might be hoping for to stop it. After the six-month mark, the chances of it disappearing altogether are very slim, in my opinion. However, if you habituate, you are not bothered by it most of the time. That is a win...
