Ear syringing, very dangerous to do. I had it done in January and it gave me hearing loss and Severe T and H.

It's very frustrating that in the UK, ear syringing is no longer available on the NHS and I suspect this will lead to a vast increase in the number of people suffering ear trauma like this, as a private solution is £70+ If it helps the OP, my tinnitus took quite a while to settle.

@Aaron123 That's what I read too. My right ear is still hissing a little from the ear syringing. I took prednisolone so I'm hoping that inflammation will go down. I called and asked for a different antibiotic.

I would say that acoustic trauma is damage to the ear caused by noise, so it is a different category.

So you think syringing may not damage my ears further? I'm still really apprehensive about it honestly.

Since there was no earwax (the assistant told my mother see couldn't see any wax but syringed anyway to make sure) there was no improvement in hearing.

Syringing causes tinnitus too, @Markku should know, and what would be the other methods, @JohnAdams? Well, actually there are, using utensils, but I do not think that the method is the culprit, but the suction power, the diameter of the tool, and how it is performed.

@Michael Leigh Hard to know. I think mine is a combination of self-syringing followed by a loud headphone use at the gym. So, likely acoustic shock of some kind. However, my hearing is perfect. Not sure what that says about my situation.

I think it's particular frequencies that bother me. Tomorrow is D-Day anyway for syringing. We'll see if it makes it better or worse. Hopeful for better, prepared for worse. The olive oil has made the wax feel like a plug in my ear now!

Have heard of syringing causing T but have not heard of this technique that you describe. I don't think it would be the noise that has given you T more than likely the procedure itself may have damaged something inside your ear. But I could be wrong.

I had an acoustic trauma very similar to a syringing/microsuction sort of thing. Tinnitus is in both ears but my left ear is by far worse off but same as you the dips come up on both ears almost equally. Very strange. I have pretty bad hearing distortion which I assume is due to this specific dip.

Many clinics that remove earwax by syringing or microsuction fail to tell clients to use eardrops, 3 times a day for 7 to 10 days before having the wax removed. They are running a business and only in it for the money. Next time use eardrops in the manner I've suggested.

Next time let the ENT use a manual tool to remove the ear wax. I cannot believe ENTs still use water syringing and microsuction for this where a 5 minute Google search shows these techniques are dangerous for the ear. Also don't let the ENT perform the tympanometry test on you. Probably now...

Be very, very careful about syringing your own ears. Several people on this forum got their tinnitus, or made their exisiing T worse, with syringing. Actually, sticking anything small deep inside your ear canal (including a Q tip) can lead to damage or an ear drum perforation. Doctors will tell...

I guess the syringing was just the last push giving me T. I just had too much noise in my life. (loud music on headphones, metal detecting beeps on headphones, going out in clubs) I also had a disco/club T for one week when I was younger.

"Ear syringing" is a blind procedure; I doubt it makes much difference to the outcome whether it is carried out by a nurse or a doctor. Other than that, I would agree entirely.

Acoustic Reflex, VEMP, Ecog, Tympanometry, Microsuction, Ear syringing, Caloric Test, etc are all to be avoided.

I've had my ears syringed many times. As far as i know, warm water is blasted into the ear, but no suction is used. The wax comes out by the water agatating it. The nurse always warns me the procedure can purferate the eardrum. So syringing can certainly cause tinnitus.
