Took Me 10 Years to Habituate to Tinnitus: And Now Allergy Season Triggered ETD, Followed by a Spike

My right ear began ringing when I was 16 (I’m 26 now). After a rough rollercoaster I finally was at a place where my tinnitus was a second thought and I barely thought about it. I wear ear plugs when I need to, avoid loud noises, take supplements, and whenever I am prescribed any new medication...

    Tinnitus and Orthodontic/Dentistry Questions

So I need a few things done inside my mouth, and I was just wondeing if anyone had any input on it. Ive read mixed things on here between different people, so I've decided to make my own post. I need to get a couple of fillings done, three wisdom teeth taken out (already had one bottom taken...

    Head Position Changes Tinnitus?

Hi all! Had a recent discovery at work. I had my ear plugs in while vacuuming and I bent down to plug in my vacuum, but as I stood back up I noticed my T get louder for a moment. So I did a test; I stood straight, lowered my head perpendicular to my body and put it back up right. As I lifted me...

    Starting Down a New Path

Hi all! Been a while since I have been on here. My T hasn't changed much I think, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Anyway, I have decided I am going to really begin my life. I plan on getting my own apartment, going back to school, and learning a new language. For the past 3 or 4 years I...

    Instant Spike

I take overly cautious matters to make sure I protect my ears, even from the most mundane things. for work I drive a van, and I wear ear plugs for the trip because it's an older van and the flooring in the back is a little loose. So when I hit bumps or potholes, it creates a loud noise. And...

    Loud Job Offer

Hello all, I have recently gotten job offer from my cousin who is a general contractor doing mostly renovations and the occasional house build. I would be helping him do these things and as you can imagine some of the work is quite loud. It would be just me and him mainly so there wouldn't be...

Shooting with Protection, Still Possible Damage?

Hi Doctor, I went camping over the weekend and a buddy of mine had brought his 9mm pistol with him. In the spur of the moment I decided I would go fire some rounds with them. I shot 30 rounds in all, two 15 round clips. The first time I had ear plugs and ear muffs, the second time just ear...

Shooting with Ear Protection, Still Possible Damage?

So I went camping this weekend, and there was some shooting we did outdoors. I had my ears plugged even when I wasn't shooting, and when I did shoot, the first time I shot (both times were pistols) I had plugs and ear muffs. The second time I had only muffs. Took NAC when I got home just to...

What's More Damaging? Clapping to Your Head Once or Being in a Bar (Only Chatter) for a Few Hours?

Just wanted to get a question and answer thread going on things compared to other things and which could pose a bigger risk to your hearing/tinnitus. So here's my question, Which is worse, someone clapping close to your head once, or being in a bar (no live music just chatter) for a few hours?

Going To Bars and the Like

So it was my 21st birthday this past weekend so I decided to hit a few bars with friends. The first bar was loud enough where I had to talk loud to hear the other people at my table, and I was there for about a half an hour, no plugs in. The next two bars were pretty quiet, could talk in a...

Changed Thyroid Medicine (From Synthroid to Synthroid and Cytomel), My Tinnitus Is Much Worse Now

Went from 150 mcg Synthroid to 88 mcg Synthroid and 15 mcg Cytomel a day, and my tinnitus is much worse now. Can't even go on a drive and drown it out like I used to. Will my body adjust and it will subside, or should I go back to my old dose? I have a bit more energy, but the T increase is...

    Dog Screamed In Ear

It's always something. Had my sisters small dog in my lap, and someone knocked on the door and it lifted it's head up by my left ear and did like a half bark half scream. It was quite loud, and it being right by my ear is what worries me the most. I'd assume it was somewhere between 90-100 decibels.

    Alarm Went Off On Me

So this morning I was coming down my stairs and like usual I disable my motion sensor, but the beep it made was actually from me setting it off and not from me hitting the button. Less than a minute later it goes off at 120 decibels, and I quickly put my fingers in my ears as to only have a few...

    Not-So-Loud Noises Making Tinnitus Worse?

I absolutely hate noises that might not be what some consider loud, but I do. I try my absolute best to protect my ears nowadays but there everyday there is something that sneaks it's way when I'm not wearing ear plugs. The reason I bring this up is because I have read that if your brain feels...

    Whistle Blown in Ear...

    "Kiss of Deaf"?

So I was doing some research and I found out something called the kiss of deaf, which is where someone kisses someone on the ear and in rare instances it could create suction that pulls on the ear drum and damage the tiny bones in your ear, leading to T, hearing loss, hypercausis, muffled...

Of Course! (Suction Made by Earplugs When Pulled Out)

So I carry around and wear ear plugs everyday (as many of us do), but I come to find out that the kind I have could actually be damaging my ears more. I use the rubber plugs with the three separate rings and attached to each other by a string. I have recently read that the suction made by these...

And the Bad News Keeps Rolling In

Looks like when I was sick at the beginning of last month I sustained some nerve damage in my ear, leading to the NEW ringing in my left ear. Life is great. My grandma died recently, everyday she laid in bed crying because of how loud her T was and she couldn't stand it anymore. I'm 20 and I...

Teenage Years Lost to Tinnitus (Amongst Other Tinnitus)

My story begins when I was 16 years old. Up to this point I was a teenager doing the teenager stuff your parents don't want you to do. I smoked pot, drank, and had taken ecstasy and mushrooms a few times. But I was a good, nice kid. Did well in school, had a lot of friends, and worked hard when...
