2024 US Presidential Election

He sounds like he has got something to hide.

Elon agrees.

@Watasha, how about reopening Alcatraz as a prison? Seems like a bad idea, especially considering the cost and operating expenses.
I'm not aware of a good justification for it given its operating costs. We should be examining every facet of public spending for waste, fraud, and abuse.

The Japan trade deal is great. Their tariffs for autos and other goods will be lowered to 15%.

For other countries, the average tariffs for the U.S. in 2024 were about 2.5%; now they stand at about 17%.

Trump is doing great, and many economists who were critical now admit that they were wrong about him.

Trump continues to do worse than I even expected, which was very poorly. About those tariffs:

Do you still think that Trump misspoke, @Luman?

It's possible he's not overstating the possibility of very sharp drug price decreases. Americans are paying astronomical prices for many medications - far more than the citizens of other countries.

I'm satisfied with his performance so far in his second term.

The demand for tariffed products will decrease if manufacturers pass the tariffs on to American consumers. They can make less profit, or lose their business in America. It's their choice.

Look at the figures. It's a huge tax on American consumers. And to bring much of the manufacturing to the U.S. will take many years and will cost even more. There's no winning with Trump. It keeps getting worse.

We don't need their products, even if what you say is true.

I don't care one iota if luxury foreign car sales suffer in the United States as a result of tariffs. We need to focus on American factories and the employment opportunities they provide. Many foreign companies are already planning to open more factories in the United States, in the near future.

Other countries put high tariffs on the U.S., and have unfair rules, but now there will be a differnt approach, thanks to Trump. They can peddle their products elsewhere, if our new terms cut profits or are otherwise unacceptable.

Most people with TDS will not agree with anything that Trump does, and will remain in denial no matter how successful he is.

EU and US agree trade deal, with 15% tariffs for European exports to America
  • President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the U.S. has reached a trade deal with the European Union.
  • Trump said that the deal imposes a 15% tariff on most European goods to the U.S., including cars.
  • The U.S. president had previously threatened 30% tariffs on goods from the European Union.
  • The EU also agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of U.S. energy and invest an additional $600 billion worth of investments into the U.S. above current levels.

A researcher with hearing loss got a grant to study restoring hearing. The Trump administration canceled it because of DEI

The Trump administration has defunded a hearing loss research study because the researcher himself had hearing loss... waiting for the Trump defenders to come in on this one.
He received a DEI grant, which gave him an advantage over other qualified researchers. He was given preferential treatment because he has a disability. Grants should be awarded based on scientific merit and the background and skills of the researcher or research team, not for reasons related to DEI.

I'm curious to see the end result of this deal, seeing as the White House and the European Commission are already presenting different narratives:
Pharmaceuticals
What the White House says:
Pharmaceuticals will be subject to the across-the-board 15% tariff that will apply to the majority of EU-made products as of 1 August.

What the Commission says: Pharmaceuticals will, for the time being, be spared from the 15% tariff and instead remain under the current 0% rate until the Trump administration completes its Section 232 investigation into the sector.

Energy
What the White House says:
The EU will "double down" on its purchases of American energy, buying $750 billions' worth by the end of Trump's second term. In practice, this will amount to $250 billion each year.

What the Commission says: The Commission, which negotiated the deal on behalf of all 27 member states, lacks the competence to determine the amount, the type and the origin of the energy supplies acquired by governments and companies. Therefore it cannot legally bind the bloc to the goal of spending $750 billion on American energy.

Investment pledge
What the White House says:
The EU will invest $600 billion in the US by the end of Trump's second term. "This new investment is in addition to the over $100 billion (that) EU companies already invest in the United States every year," the fact sheet says.

What the Commission says: As with the energy purchases, the Commission is unable to design and implement investments on behalf of the private sector. The $600 billion is another indication based on the executive's contacts with industry.

Weaponry
What the White House says
: The EU "agreed to purchase significant amounts of US military equipment", the fact sheet says, without citing any financial figure.

What the Commission says: Absolutely not. The Commission has resolutely denied making any pledge to ramp up purchases of American-made weaponry.

I'm curious to see the end result of this deal, seeing as the White House and the European Commission are already presenting different narratives:
It's not a legally binding deal, yet. Further negotiations will take place to create a joint declaration that will clarify the agreement's terms.

Kamala Harris lost the support of her "mentor," Willie Brown. He recently said he advised her not to accept the job of Vice President, and told her that she would have been better to have set her sights on the Supreme Court. He believes that this was the reason she stopped talking to him. He added that she should not try to run for Governor of California, which she had been considering but has recently decided against it.

Harris has no executive talents. It would have been a disaster if she had become POTUS.

8-year-olds, Dude!
Don't you think that during the four years Biden was in office, if there was evidence of any true scandals that the Democrats could have used against Trump, they would have brought them out? They libeled him for years, tried all kinds of unethical maneuvers in and out of court, and failed to stop him. He was shot at and not only survived and stood up, but he also continued to campaign until he won.

This is not a man who is interested in what you are referring to.

President Trump has fired Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, who was appointed by Biden. She altered numbers to favor the Democrats, and later falsified them to hurt Trump.

There is zero evidence of any false data. Trump is just crying because the numbers confirm the economy is getting worse with higher unemployment and inflation-stagflation.

Trump is delusional. In recent days, he has stated that prices are going down. But prices are going up! Inflation is much higher than the Federal Reserve target due to prices going up, even faster than what is considered acceptable for the economy. They're certainly not going down, like Trump said.

Prices rose 2.6% in June, up from 2.4% in May. Excluding food and energy, prices rose 2.8% in the past year. The Fed Reserve target is 2%, and it's running much higher and going in the wrong direction with Trumplation and Trump tariffs that Americans are paying for.

With Trump's low intelligence, he probably doesn't understand any of this.

And he also wants to distract from the fact that he's in the Epstein files and doesn't want that information out there, exposing what he has done.
