Charron, I have been there . Please read my post I just listed on the introduce yourself forum. I know everything your feeling, I too could not eat or sleep and I lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks. I am not suggesting you do this because your T may go away but I myself did get on anxiety meds and antidepressants and feel that helped me get to where I am now. The klonopin did help calm me down which made the ringing tolerable and Although the dr gave me a rx for 1.5 months of klonopin I have only taken maybe 10 at the Most over a 2 month period. I don't need the klonopin anymore, I am eating again, have no anxiety and I have my happy back. Feel free to message me at anytime. ️Hugs.

Hang in there Charron. Things will improve. It will take some time. We have been where you are now and many members do get better over time. When T is new it is a struggle for every one. You will find the similar suffering from many posters of success stories. I was in a hell of suffering a few years back, but I now live a normal and absolutely enjoyable life. I am on vacation. So for brevity, I list some success stories for you to read, hopefully you will feel better.

      Hi @Chardon,
I am also deaf in one ear due to a sudden loss of hearing in 2013. I received help from a psychologist after several months of trying to figure things out on my own. Looking back, I think I should have sought help sooner. The early months with hearing loss and tinnitus are a living hell! One of the toughest parts is that nobody understands how scared you are right now.
Things will get better for you. Pleases know that we will be here to help.

Thank you for your kind replys, I'm in bits, if I could sleep and not wake I would happily do so, it's hard when no one understands, everywhere I look no hope, it's so hard when Drs and people say to just manage it, I'm really not, it's so loud, the hot and cold fevers wake me every hour, I will read more of your stories, thank u X

Did your ENT give you a dexamethasone injection in your bad ear? I think that should be done right away with SSHL.

Hi Charron. I have T myself through stress. If I can recommend one person to learn coping strategies from on Youtube, it's Julian Cowan Hill. Just try him out. He has made dozens of videos covering all aspects of T and it won't cost a thing. Regards. Jonathan

@Charron that is wonderful news, it's baby steps. Your attitude plays a big role in overcoming this. Stay away from negative thoughts , wake up each day and fill your mind with "I'm not letting this beat me" And remember It's ok to have a bad day but very soon you will have more good than bad. My T is so loud that I can hear it over the shower water but I am at the point now 3 months in that I don't wake up with the T being the first thing on my mind, hang in there sweetie and believe me it will get better. Keep yourself busy and don't focus on the T the more you focus on it the louder it seems. Thank you for the update. ️Hugs

I am so sorry @Charron this is happening to you. You'll beat this. We all do by continuing to live everyday making a conscious decision to be grateful that we get to walk, breath, smell, see and hear the world even if there's an intrusive annoying sound that drives us crazy. Life changed at one point for each and everyone of us. We lost the joy of silence yes but we are fighters and survivors. Don't give up. We are all here with you. I wish you peace and serenity.

@Charron, it is nice to know you are better mentally. A big part of the T battle is mental. If you can win or at least maintain a truce with T on the mental battle front, count that as a positive development. As it was mentioned above, try to make baby steps, knowing that there will be the falls, and given time, you will gain more steady positive strides in the battle with T. I learn from a war veteran how to battle with T, not by violent means or by extreme reactions, but by learning to live peacefully with it. When asked how to live with T long-termed, the veteran replied, 'I am a soldier and I fight for a living. But with tinnitus, I have learned to accommodate it, not to fight it.' (like he did on a battle field). So I learn not to supply more fuel and fire to T by stressing out with it. I accept its presence, the reality of T (at least for the time being) in my life, and I go about living my life and enjoy what I can. Given time, not just winning the psychological battle, even T doesn't appear as intrusive as before without my negative reactions towards it.

I have slowed my life down, am not rushing and I'm actually enjoying doing stuff at a slower pace! It's not even 3 weeks yet so it still seems pretty loud, but I'm not having panic attacks anymore and manage to sleep using herbal sleeping tablets, I'm not looking for a cure but am hopeful that one day the noise may lessen as my brain adapts, I just wonder how people without support manage to get through this as it nearly broke me, I hope one day I can help others xxx

      Sudden hearing loss
@Charron, I also had a sudden hearing loss and tinnitus along with it. Something that has really helped me is getting fitted with a Cros hearing aid. It really has made a big difference. Now sounds on my deaf side are transmitted to my good ear and my brain is adapting to make things sound more normal. Ask your ENT about it. Mine made me wait several months to see if my hearing was going to come back. It did not, but the hearing aids have made everything more bearable. They even have a white noise component to help deal with the tinnitus. It is too early for me to know if that is helping. Everything takes time. Good luck to you. You are not alone.

Charron, Hi ... I am pleased to hear you are in a better spirits. I have been deaf in my one ear since an infant and suffered from T for over 20 yrs. most of the time I don't notice it and then there are times when it will get hard to ignore, that's usually when I get a sinus infection..but I know it will quiet down after it clears up.
A few things that work for me..
wear hearing protection when around loud noises.
Keep busy..something that keeps your mind occupied.
I always have music on..what ever type of music that makes you feel good :)
And find a happy place, mine is a small cabin in the woods I have, near a water fall the sound of the running water drowns out 90% of the T even on a bad day.
      Wishing you well..and Peace..
      Jay

Jay9/13, thank u for your helpful tips! I have ordered some new earplugs as the ones I'm using are like extra big headphones and look strange haha, I am using uplifting music and it helps, I'm so much more positive than 3 weeks ago when I couldn't cope! I thought life was at an end, yesterday I did a 7 mile hike, not my usual 20 but it's a great start! I'm appreciating life in a different way, I'm always busy but not ready to go back to work as yet, your cabin in the woods sounds amazing! I love my country walks but do have to go along some busy roads to get there, I'm in Kent England, if I was nearer I'd be stealing your cabin lol, thank u for sharing your lovely ideas, love from England xxxx

Charron..You are welcome..just happy to hear your doing better. Even after all of these years ..I still have times when it becomes almost too much. The real problem is that only other peeps with T understand what it is like and even that varies depending how bad their T is.
It does sound like you are on the right trail to coping.
Have a Happy New Years EVE...:)
btw..your welcome to stay in the cabin..if you can get here.

Hey, Charron! It's comforting to know that you're getting trough this. Stay strong! The key for peace is when we just manage to accept it and don't expect much out of it to be done (when there's no secondary causes), except waiting for it to settle down the volume and getting used to it. Mine took like 2 months to decrease the noise/volume; I often got myself at night suddenly waking up to the loudness of it, like I was scared, high rate heart beating and feeling like I was sufocated (I believe a lot of us experience this episodes of panick attack). It got better. Been there, had suicidal thoughts, I know exactly what you're talking about. All I wish is the best and I want to say something: if you want to make it, overcome this problem, you'll definitely do and things will get better.
