Hello and good evening from Germany!

Sorry for my crappy English, I now try out this forum because the "tinnitus community" in Germany is old and small ;-)

Since January 2021 I have suffered from a complex form of tinnitus - first it was only a humble humming sound... For 3 weeks now the number of tinnitus sounds has increased, it sounds like the music of an arcade machine, but very fast like an alarm tone.

Please tell me that I will cope one day and some of the frequencies will disappear...

Tinnitus usually calms down with time but it would help to know what caused it.

Before the onset of tinnitus, were you a regular user of headphones, earbuds or headsets?

Yeah, I used headsets for work, but because of my pregnancy I stopped wearing them quite a long time ago.

I use hearing aids, but my hearing loss is not that severe, I only wanted to try them in my younger years to prevent severe hearing loss when I'm old.

I suffer from post natal depression and the humming sound started during that time.
When I first heard the new sound I unfortunately started to get panic attacks about 3 times a day...

I also got an "open tube", but I heard this kind of tinnitus sounds more like a "rushing" rather than actual sounds?

Headphones, earbuds, headsets, AirPods are some of the most common causes of tinnitus. If you have stopped using the headsets for quite a while, and haven't been using headphones or earbuds then probably none of these are the cause. Other things can cause tinnitus but for now try not to worry too much as it usually improves with time. My advice is to leave your ears alone and not to try any treatments for now. It would help if you start using low level sound enrichment during the day and also at night. More about this is explained in my articles in the links below.

      All the best
      Michael

Thank you for your kind words, Michael...

My tinnitus seems to be pulsatory. Should I visit the doctor to clarify causes and
is there anything else you can do after this time has passed (if it's a physical reason)?

Thank you for your advice :)

Yes! You'll get through it. I had this exact thing after a setback in June over the summer. It would faintly sound like a room full of casino slot machines for me. It did fade over time. For a while it was really annoying, and now I only hear it every so often. I've probably gotten used to it for the most part. Stay positive, and don't use headphones!

      Hello everyone!

I suffer from Mister T (that's the nickname I gave him to save myself from going totally nuts) for about 2 months. My tinnitus is never the same, changing multitonal tone sequences every few seconds/minutes.

Does anyone know such a tinnitus and give me some advice? How can I calm it down?

Benzodiazepines, Gabapentin or alcohol may help to make it quieter. I had the same thing with a million sound effects from hyperbaric oxygen. Many of the sounds have disappeared... at the time I needed Clonazepam to get through the day.

When your tinnitus is having a go, up a bit - remember to have that 15/20 minute rest early evening, phone out of the way, get a drink, TV off - and with eyes closed use single point concentration, focusing on one image for 10 seconds, then again - this calms the mind, nice breaths, and good thoughts... Then get up, say in mind that's it, rest over, let's get on with it - and find some simple 'non online' jobs to do, moving around quite quickly to keep positive, breathe - concentrating and complimenting yourself on just what you are doing, see what effect that has on you...

I didn't believe I'd get used to tinnitus, but I did and it only took months, not a year or years. You'll be ok.

Yesterday I had a huge fight with my husband, and since then I have had a high pitched roar in my head.

Is this a spike and will it go away? I'm afraid it won't :(

Mine is all over the place. I'll make an update in 6 months when I have more firm answers.

The worst of it is back but for a while the tinnitus was fading.

The massive fight with your husband Hamsti - will have lowered your energy vibrations 'vibes' - this will correct if you be kind to yourself, think positive thoughts, nice breaths especially online, time in nature - get the feel good factor back and vibes will increase and things will settle - it's up to you both to make this happen...

Tinnitus thrives on stress and anger, reverse it by being positive, show kindness and by keeping busy - relax, breathe...

Some newcomers arrived which are worse (low buzzing and thuds).

Most of the higher pitched guys packed their bags and I haven't heard from them.

The beeping likes to make cameos from time to time, but it's always gone the next day or two.

Overall fewer sounds. Just replaced with a smaller number I despise more.

Mine really spiked a couple months back and lasted for a couple weeks. I suffered major anxiety for the duration. It was the worst time of my life.

I’ve actually had a couple days of close to complete silence since then but it is usually at a level I can tolerate. Still above my base line of the last three years but at least I’m not going crazy and can sleep.

So yes @Hamsti, I think it will settle.

No more fights and tell your husband he must do everything you ask of him. :) Try your best to stay calm and best of luck.

I don't understand my tinnitus... It's been 5 months now and it is a) getting louder and b) it is now a cacophony of tones, noise and morse code of all frequencies.

I'm not that deaf for the explanation "it's the frequency you don't hear the brain plays all along."

Where should this lead and how should I stay optimistic and relaxed?

Hi, don’t worry, you’ll be fine! Other than protecting your ears there’s nothing you can do.

So I would focus on other problems or goals in life, which you do have control over. In my experience, when other things are going well, the tinnitus also becomes more bearable/pushed to the background.

I suggest you go down the diagnosis path with a doctor. You may not find a root cause, but you also may find a root cause, or a promising lead. Some of these are treatable.

      Diagnostic Flowchart for Tinnitus Management

      Good luck.
