Does it annoy anyone else when they rev their engine whenever they drive past? OMG

I disliked the sound of loud motorcycles since before I had tinnitus, and feel the same way about other excessively loud motor vehicles.

When I see a bike approaching (especially a Harley), I automatically plug my ears...funny thing is, that before the T I enjoyed riding bikes quite a bit.
I also used to enjoy the sound of a reved up engines...especially the high performance ones.

Absolutely hate it. I go so far as saying I wish the rider had my t and h when it was at it's worst a few months back. Even for just a few moments so they could see how damaging it is to others...

I thought that when they drive by and it is extremely loud it is just the normal sound of the engine. Never understood how they don't go deaf. People intentionally rev the engine to make it louder? What is the point?

Yes, it does. Few things spike my anxiety like the roaring of motorcycles as they pass by. I truly never realized how loud they are. There are certain noises that feel dangerous to me, now -- motorcycles, "souped up" engines, low-flying helicopters, sirens, and trains, for example. These are things I will need to be aware of for the time being, and protect against them as best I can -- what I'm trying to learn is to acknowledge that, without developing an unhealthy fear of them. Some days, it's a tightrope.

One time there was a PACK member who was compensating at around 100dB on his motorcycle near an intersection. So when I walked by I covered my ears. He got mad and flipped me off. I don't understand what his problem was. Sorry I'm not tolorant of Jackasses. If he wants to engage in loud displays of tiny-penisry, then I guess he has the legal freedom to do that. But don't get mad at people for covering their ears.

I'm not a mechanic nor do I know more than the basics of automobiles, but is there anything stopping the production of quiet/quieter motorcycles?

@coffee_girl You raise a good question. We all are very ANNOYED by these crazy motor cycles.
To them, may be some fun... riding around.. but to us ... IT IS A TORTURE.

Haha that looks like it might be my home country, I was there this February and the sound wasn't bad at all, these aren't really motorcycles but more like scooters and they are very quiet. In fact I don't think i had to wear plugs when I was driving (yes i drive them too) on the street. The ones in America are outrageously loud and i think it's either because people want to show off (look at me!) or the maker of the vehicle prefers it that way, or someone installed a device on their bike to enhance the sound.

Either way, jogging in the streets in CA are always a fun surprise =]

      I have been to Taiwan.
To me these scooters are still loud but better than Harley Davidson style.

I really hate them, just as I hate loud cars. Really feeling like an old, grumpy lady whenever it comes up in a conversation, but I really can't understand why they have to make all that noise (and never have understood it, even before tinnitus).

Some days i thought it would be funny if all people with T can have an option of living in a village together...that way motorcycles and cars with crazy upgrades will be banned completely. Along with blaring loud music coming out of stereos of vehicles.

Saw a guy on a ridiculously loud Harley last night on my walk home, but it wasn't the engine I first heard. It was his radio! Guy was wearing a German helmet too! He has to have hearing loss. I of course had my Peltor muffs in-hand, casually placed them on my ears, looked at the guy, gave him the f-you nod, and kept on moving...

I see a lot of Harley riders wearing those little helmets that don’t cover their ears. I imagine their hearing being ripped to shreds. It’s astounding.

My young cousin has a ridiculously loud sport bike. He has to put foam in his helmet against his ear on the exhaust side because it is too noisy. That won't help much though... I'm sure he will lose some hearing in the coming years..

I've been riding motorbikes for some 40 years now (not Harleys). The loud pipes are a Harley tribal thing. The original quiet mufflers are thrown in the bin and they fit some nasty low-quality open systems instead. They think it's cool and antisocial, and they love to pretend to be antisocial, even though most of them are pussies. Possibly some of them were deprived of their drumset/guitar/keyboard etc. when they where kids and now take revenge. Most other motorcyclists hate the loud pipes as ordinary people do. My own motorcycle is whisper quiet.

Some bikes are a bit too loud for my taste, but those 80/90's powerboats with twin V8 engine and no muffler are even more ridiculously loud!

I agree about the annoying sports cars, but what is worse are those crappy Hondas that some person painted over with matte paint and then add a ridiculous muffler and a sticker on the back that says "Fast and Furious"...like why?!?!?! Why do you want people to hear and notice your crappy souped up family car?!?!?!?

In the country I’m currently living in, many people who ride 50cc bikes add custom exhausts, that amplify the sound to even worse than Harley’s. Yet similar bikes with normal mufflers are almost silent. It’s insane.

I also see families with young kids with no helmets and even babies riding on bikes in crazy loud traffic. Breaks my heart. I’m in a very well insulated car with filtered plugs and still get annoyed by some sounds.

      True !

When I was in Asia, the most loud vehicles were the Tuc-Tuc with their Engines modified...

But definitely not their Scooters !
