Question: what do you think, what % of population have T which is not only audible in a quiet room? My grandma and father has it like that

I read several places that an estimated 10-15% of the population has chronic tinnitus and the vast majority only have mild or moderate tinnitus. Intermittent tinnitus is much more common.

@GCS Yes, that's my experience too, but once we have T we have a new way of sensing hearing loss; our T increases. It doesn't take all that much to worsen the T once we have it.

I have a decibel meter on my cell phone. I turn it on when I listen to music in my car so that I can be sure how loud it really is and I don’t rely on the bar displaying the volume on the stereo. I use it everywhere like restaurants etc. Sorry to hear this happened to you.

@GCS the hard part is that we have very little information about loudness, types and duration of tinnitus. I think the hardest part of all that we experience with the auditory system is not knowing. I would say among people who have tinnitus, it is common.

I would say its the same volume as the ring which goes up and down. For me when I had (or get) tonal flickering ringing it was maddening and all the time just distracting. Obviously I don't like the hiss sound but I find my mind is prob 90% less drawn to it that the ringing. I have found the ringing has turned into a hiss almost with 10% of tone in it somewhere.

@GCS There's a lot of testimonies of people beginning to improve after several months, so you could very well improve if you're careful. But even if it doesn't improve, and you're left with hissing that's very stable, you'll most certainly adapt to the noise and live a very fulfilling and productive life; I can assure you that.
