Augmentin is co-amoxiclav. In other words amoxicillin plus clavulanic acid. I’ve had it twice since my tinnitus became a problem and the first time was a strong dose while I had sepsis (amongst flucloxicillin, metronidazole, amoxicillin, and clindamycin). None of them had an effect on my tinnitus.

Yeah, happens plenty! Don't stress, if you do decide to take an antibiotic go for something like amoxcillian or augmentin duo, both are safe.

The antibiotics are for the pneumonia. For aspiration pneumonia the best treatments are Levaquin, Augmentin and Doxycycline.

I took it only for one day. It ended up being just a temporary spike.

FWIW, my spikes were caused by Cipro and Augmentin (which contains amoxicillin which was supposedly oto-friendly). Almost a year later, my spike is still with me with no reduction in volume.

It absolutely can be. My first negative experience with ototoxic meds was Augmentin of which Amoxicillin is a component. It tripled the volume of my tinnitus 3 years ago and it's never gone down since then.

I'd be surprised if augmentin (amoxicillin) was the cause for your hearing troubles. I don't think it's considered particularly ototoxic. What you are disclosing about your noise exposure seems like a more likely lead to me. At any rate, you should probably get your hearing checked at some point.

A short course of antibiotics shouldn't cause you much of a problem. It's the intravenous antibiotics that could spike tinnitus. Love, Glynis

Augmentin which contains Amoxicillin sent my tinnitus through the roof. Also, avoid aminoglycoside antibiotics which are known to be ototoxic. @Ed209 is correct. They should have done a culture that shows which antibiotics will be effective against the particular bacteria causing infection.

thats cool, my doc gave me predisolone too for my swollen sinuses. today is day 3 for me. i told him my ringing started when i took augmentin and keflex for my strep throat. but he said those antibiotics do not have those side effects. im so confused @_@
