Will You Get Vaccinated for Coronavirus (COVID-19)? Can It Make Tinnitus or Hyperacusis Worse?

Discussion in 'Support' started by TheDanishGirl, Nov 13, 2020.

?

Will you get vaccinated for coronavirus?

  1. Yes, right away, as soon as possible, when the first vaccine becomes available

  2. Yes, planning to, but I will wait a while to see if there are any potential long-term side effects

  3. Maybe, I haven't decided yet one way or another

  4. No, I'm not going to get vaccinated

I do not think it is each year. I think it is an estimate of how many people have tinnitus in the USA. (Anyone can correct me if I am wrong.)
Are you mocking those who so choose not to take this shot? People on this forum don't take Ibuprofen, Melatonin and other well known medications for fears of making tinnitus worst! Yet they are mocked for waiting or not wanting to take this shot??? Many here ran to take this shot without asking questions or just waiting a bit for more information on adverse reactions to come out. Let's just have productive discussion on this thread. And don't be mad at me. I'm still your friend. :)
Giggling at this. Don't be mad at me Jack. :huganimation:

The conspiracy part, well, let's see how these "experts" are doing... Let's see a little bit of their record... Not saying they are lying, but sometimes it takes years to see the devastating consequences an approved medication or vaccine can have on people.

Take a look at all the different medications approved by FDA ("science, right?") that have caused cancer and so many other injuries to people and had to be pulled out of the market. Look at Zantac, 36 years in the market!!! Doctors prescribed it left and right like if it was candy! Makes you wonder.

FDA Requests Removal of All Ranitidine Products (Zantac) from the Market | FDA

FDA-Approved Prescription Drugs Later Pulled from the Market - Prescription Drug Ads - ProCon.org

And there are many, many more...

Now why would they need 55 years plus to release the data??

FDA Wants Until 2076 To Fully Release Pfizer Vaccine Data: Lawsuit - Invesbrain
12,000 too many people who are now suffering from this hell! This is not acceptable. When a person comes to this site saying they just got tinnitus, it breaks my heart, let alone 12,000! :(

If you take the shot, I support you and wish you well and if you so choose not to, I also support you and wish you well. I do not want anyone suffering from tinnitus but whatever your decision is you have to live with whatever the consequences are.

Not everyone is due for a booster yet. Mine's scheduled for this Wednesday. I'll post when I have data (probably towards the end of the week).

      The horrors!

My degree is in Advertising and Public Relations.

I remember studying Thalidomide's advertisement campaign in one of my classes.

Every single ad stated it was "safe!"

It took years for them to take it out of the market.

Too late for the many people harmed by it and the thousands of miscarriages.

      Very sad.

Yes, it’s an estimate of how many people in the U.S. have tinnitus - not new cases alone each year but some would be new and some ongoing cases. The incident of worsening cases reported to VAERS suggests that if the vaccine is worsening or causing tinnitus, it’s a very rare side effect given how common tinnitus is.

Noise-induced tinnitus -> the vaccines have no effect on the tinnitus.

Others -> esp. ETD-induced tinnitus -> the vaccines aggravate the tinnitus.

      Any thoughts?

I will have my first shot of Pfizer today. But I am forced to, I will lose my job if not. They are considering a forced vaccination here in Germany. Today it is "voluntary", they just take all you rights if you don't take it.

      I'm very concerned about this.

Had my first Pfizer yesterday and today my tinnitus has spiked and is definitely louder than normal. Hoping it's a temporary spike due to inflammation.
I can't see the comment you're replying to which means it's by someone I've got on ignore. Some of the anti-vax nonsense I've seen posted on this thread is ridiculous. There's a big difference between being vaccine hesitant for fear of it making your tinnitus worse (I myself was in this category) compared to being anti-vax.

People claiming the vaccine is worse than COVID-19 and posting farcical YouTube videos to try and back it up is a joke. The Ignore button has got a lot of use on this thread.

Plausible theory for sure. Presumably there could be some overlap meaning someone with noise induced tinnitus could have a reaction to the shot which could compound things. I’ve had three full Moderna shots. I do not recall any particular spikes. However, my tinnitus is louder than pre COVID-19. I’m not willing to attribute this to the vaccine but I’m not willing to rule it out either. I certainly hope they have this figured out by the time I need my 4th.

My tinnitus was noise induced and the vaccine has definitely spiked it. There are quite a few others on this forum with noise induced tinnitus that have had an increase post vaccine.

@Robster, my spike didn’t last at all. It’s been over two weeks and it’s been its normal variable tinnitus but nothing unusual. I have my second jab on Monday morning. The one thing I would say is that I do suffer from very bad eczema and the vaccine definitely induced the flare.

@Forever hopeful, thanks for reassuring me. I'm a bit worried as in my right ear at the beginning of every day since my tinnitus started I have an oscillating tone which sounds like a finger rubbing the edge of a wine glass, which after a few hours turns into the traditional eeeeee tone. Since my Pfizer shot 48 hours ago I now have both tones at the same time, all day, which has never happened before.

I am double vaccinated with Pfizer since last summer.

      1st shot: all ok.

2nd shot: initially I thought there was no impact and it is what I posted here but finally few days after the shot I am pretty sure my tinnitus spiked... It was in July and it never went back to baseline. Not a dramatic worsening but still quite annoying...

My tinnitus is noise induced and usually is not reactive to drugs so for me the risk of spike/worsening with the vaccine is not linked to the origin of your tinnitus.

      Now comes the booster...

In France where I live, they have announced yesterday that the booster will be mandatory to keep your health pass valid for every adult >18.

If no booster then the health pass will be deactivated 7 months after the 2nd shot...

The health pass in France is needed for more or less everything...

Until now, people who did not want to be vaccinated could get a 3 day validity health pass by doing a test (valid 3 days)... But Governement also announced yesterday this "test health pass" will now only be valid 24 hours...

So unless if you are doing the test every day, life becomes difficult...

I have to decide by end of January if I go for the booster with fingers crossed or not...
I hope that the booster has maybe lower dosage of active product hence lower risk of side effect... but I don't know.

By the way, there are also now numerous studies which showed that approx. 15% of COVID-19 people get tinnitus or have their tinnitus worsened. Tinnitus has been listed in the list of Long COVID-19 symptoms.

So what kind of choice it is:

      - get the booster to keep the health pass and protect as much as possible from the infection but take the risk of another worsening of my tinnitus like after 2nd shot
      - refuse the booster and lose my health pass transforming my daily life in an obstacle course and taking higher risk to get COVID-19 with the 15% chance of worsening tinnitus

I feel trapped between the devil and the deep blue sea...

I had my second shot in late September, so if I were to take the booster shot, it would not be offered to me until late March next year. Only elderly people in my country are due for booster shots right now. I don't think I will be taking the booster shot. The 2 months long quite severe worsening of my hyperacusis, and new tinnitus tones that showed up after, is not a gamble I think I am willing to take again, most of all because I am already pretty much homebound and isolated due to my severe hyperacusis. The risk of me getting infected should be super small.

Sorry to hear. I hope it settles. One tone is bad enough but to have 2 at the same time. :(

Mine is high today. I am at the mall for Black Friday shopping. It isn’t too loud at the mall today but with little sleep etc... loud day.

It's a tough call, but the data I've seen is that tinnitus is more likely to be initiated/exacerbated by COVID-19 than the vaccine. That's how I came to my decision.

Yep as I said, apparently approx. 10/15% of people infected with COVID-19 get tinnitus or worsened tinnitus... But you have also to consider the chances to get infected which is of course not 100% and depends on you way of living and the potential risks you take.

Let's imagine you have 20% chances to be infected, then the risk for your tinnitus is 10% of 20%, so much lower.

If you are very careful, you can lower the risk...

Having said that, when you had no spike with 1st vaccine shot, then a spike with 2nd shot... what are the chances regarding the booster? Do you have more chances to get again a spike when you already had one with the 2nd shot or is it the same as for anybody else?

Would be curious to know what is inside the booster versus the first 2 shots in terms of quantity of active substance.

I found an article where a newly graduated doctor describes her symptoms after getting long COVID-19. It’s quite a heartbreaking read and she does call out tinnitus and hyperacusis specifically.

When the right temporal portion flared, I had ear pain and worsened tinnitus. With the tinnitus comes a genuine emotional reaction, as it’s something I do not cope well with. A subsequent hearing test has shown a degree of sensorineural hearing loss, which is caused by damage to the inner ear or to the auditory nerve.

Even now, 1,500 healthcare worker deaths later, according to former Secretary of Health Matt Hancock, and with 122,000 healthcare workers off with long COVID, the national guidance on PPE remains unchanged. This is an insult to the dead and injured.

It would be nice if we could get some real science around this. I certainly understand how actual COVID-19 could damage our ears. The vaccines - I’m not sure other than what could be a temporary inflammatory effect. I just don’t understand how or why the vaccines should cause permanent tinnitus. For those of us who plan to live our lives and have to leave the house, those choice is still clear - boosters. A lot of the news reports around tinnitus from vaccines were from the summer here in the US. I haven’t heard much lately. I am hopeful that it means that for most, the effect was only temporary. Either way, I do not want actual COVID-19.

I got the full third dose of Moderna. I did it in the middle of my spike. I do not believe it affected my tinnitus either way. My tinnitus is better than it was when I got the booster but still not back to original baseline. My T is of the noise induced variety.

Which also means that if 10 to 15 percent of COVID-19 cases report tinnitus, the actual number is probably 2x that. So the math still says vaccines over actual COVID-19. And for those thinking they can avoid COVID-19 forever. Good luck. It’s not happening. We’re all getting it eventually. Believe me it’s hard for me to accept it. I’ve spent 18 months in virtual lockdown with my family hoping this nightmare will end.

I don't understand either, but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

I also blame it on the inflammatory effect, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see about that.

What most people don't seem to understand is that they have to choose between the disease and the vaccine.

And as flawed as it it may be, the vaccine is the better option.

Not for the ones who suffered serious side effects, but for the vast majority of the vaccinated people that experienced only minor side effects.

I imagine the side effects of COVID-19 are under reported as well, though not by as much. If there was as much tinnitus from the vaccine as there is COVID-19, we'd have a good pulse for it by now.

I think one theory proposed is that vaccination produces much higher levels of anti-spike protein antibodies than natural infection which may lead to issues. So much still unknown.

This new paper published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine is way above my pay grade level, but it suggests ideas on why the vaccines might be causing issues such as the myocarditis. Maybe people with better science understanding can read it and see if the theories discussed might potentially apply to tinnitus.

That’s what I’ve seen in the data as well. That was certainly a motivating factor along with the fact that I would’ve been fired if I didn’t get vaccinated.
