Realising the hearing regeneration I'd pinned my hopes on probably isn't going to be suitable for me is really crushing me right now... The hearing loss isn't even really an issue, I just want the tinnitus & hyperacusis gone so I can go to the shops without ear plugs. A life of solitude & suffering is no life at all.
No longer able to sleep over 3 hours even on benzos. T is too intrusive and h causes every noise to jolt me awake. Nox is off and on I guess.
Accidentally messed up my benzo cross taper and was taking way too little. Went up to almost the correct dose but it isn't working.
Hi you said Rojo is still alive back in 2021. Do you have their fb name? I have very similar symptoms to them and want to know how they are
Hey! How are you doing now?
B
Sorry didn't see your post until now. Not doing great unfortunately. Everything has just worsened.
vilebubbles
I'm so sorry. Me too. Did you end up using ear plugs a lot or no? I've been using them but still worsening.
Are you still blaming yourself by taking wellbutrin mine is caused by medication as well
Tinnitus sucks!!! I just want to be able to make music again and enjoy life.
BrOKeN_1
I always wonder how musicians such as Ozzy Osbourne, Eric Clapton, Chris Martin, Neil Young, Phil Collins and I'm sure a few others continue to have successful careers in the industry while also dealing with this condition. At what point do you start not giving a f**k?
Andrei88
@BrOKeN_1 if you dont have hyperacusis pain I suppose you can still get around it, using good in ear monitors. I cant use those.
The thing i struggle with the most are meetings lately. Today i hade a 3 hour meeting with 4 persons in a small room of like 3X3 metres. One person talked SO loudly (was 82 DB on the phone when he was talking). I endured 1 hour before i just had to ask for a bathroom break and came back with earplugs inserted. Should have inserted them straight away but had no clue it was that loud.

@orenge01 So Finland has a bad/difficult job market these days? In Norway, at the time, Id say its very good with extremely low unemployment rate.
orenge01
@MindOverMatter Yeah Norway is probably a different story. When I said this though, I kinda meant the job market in general in the world hasn't been the greatest at the moment. I mean that the requirements of skills/skill ceiling for jobs has been quite high of recent, not to mention the multiple phases now in the recruitment process.
Sodlin
@MindOverMatter the problem is tho WHAT work to get into. Office job seems like the most quiet job i can find :/
We also had mold issues in our bedrooms, and the two times it happened, my tinnitus lessened a lot after clearing the mold.
Since last November, I've been having more and longer periods where my T is predominantly a hiss. Although it's also reactive, the intensity of neck and jaw pain I have is directly related to the loudness and nature of my T.
Okay explain this one... past couple of days my bad ear seems to be losing hearing, or at least the hyperacusis is quickly dying down, but my droning tinnitus tone is simultaneously getting quieter with it?
I had a literal air raid siren & cacophony of squealing brakes 5 months ago, the hell is going on in there.

@vilebubbles It is, in a way, this is downright liveable, but I've now been through so much and have zero idea of what's actually happened that I don't know how I'll reclaim life without fear of worsening it...

I hope you do too, I'm sure once the benzo taper is over you'll eventually get some improvement though :)

I hope it continues for you. I was having similar progress in December 2024. Since my last setback the "drone" has been terrible, along with the high pitched reactive T. Going past month 3 of that setback and onto year 2 of T. Not to scare you, but all I can say is be careful, its easy to feel complacent when things are going well, and one thing can undo all your progress and then some.
S
@Tryn2BHopeful Nope! The drone came back of its own accord this afternoon... but having a lay-in this morning with just my 'ear against the pillow electric'... better than sex.

Oh I'm well aware, but I'm quite content living the quiet life as long as I can get out in nature a bit now and then... wouldn't mind a holiday one day but we'll cross that bridge when it comes to it.
Ears are so sensitive. Every car that drives by causes a squeak or a reaction in tinnitus. Can't get away from the cars. Some pain around ear.
Thinking about my future is depressing... Will I make it 1, 2, 5 years? I am still feeling the latest set back more than ever, persistent humming, higher hissing, ear discomfort and sensitivity... Guess I am cooked....
Tryn2BHopeful
@adpolandam Almost 2 years for me as well... started after a couple doses of Lexapro... Not sure if that was a the catalyst or what, but it doesn't much matter anymore. My daughter is the only one who seems to empathize with me and offer me some support, otherwise I have been on my own like many people here. Turned away at every ENT/Audiologist again like many people here.

@Tryn2BHopeful
Even though you might struggle at the moment, things can shift with time. Ive seen and experienced this so many times myself. Ive had long lasting setbacks that has resolved after 4-6 months ++ several times. You will make it through 🙏
Tryn2BHopeful
@MindOverMatter I certainly pray that comes to fruition. I always appreciate your positivity. Especially when I am having trouble seeing it. Trying to stay strong. Hard day today.
How are you doing mate?
tomytl
Hi,
after a while of a slight recovery, I am again tortured of this ear pressure and also new high pitched T.
I also got a covid infection 6 weeks ago, this made my system even more messed up!

How are you doing? I really hope much better, Mate!
2049v
I'm trying to do better but you know how this thing is. It's been a long time since we talked 😃
Hi Dr Nick. Just wondering if your low pitch hum ever went away? And how are you coping with it? Mine is similar to yours in that it is spiked by car trips. Having a terrible time currently and would love your insight. Thank you
I miss when you was little, no trouble and life was good :)

Yeah dude I know exactly what you mean. Those days are gone forever.

For shure man
Rereading my old posts from years ago made me shed a tear. After losing my hearing aids a lot of old fears and memories came back. I almost forgot how hopeless and dark it used to be. I don't think people understand how traumatic going through something like this can be. Wishing everyone else on here an upward process, perseverance and hope for the future.
Ugh. Nursing a spike. LOUD motorcycle drove close to me. I am so mad at myself for being nearby. I am feeling very frustrated.
Doctors are not helping me for my problem with spasm in ear :( happy that a fan and magnesium work alittle atleast
cjbhab
what kind of magnesium are you using? i recommend adding potassium too. i'm beginning to get bad spasms the last couple days again. I've had it before, im confident it can go away.
henkess
I take Biscycinat, thanx i will try that! Thats to bad, have you tried muscel relaxers?
cjbhab
@henkess i have tried some OTC muscle relaxers, i dont think they helped. I seem to get this problem for 1-2 months at a time and then it will go away and return again later. not sure what makes it come and go.
