if they're going to figure out a supposedly intractable condition any time soon I think it could be tinnitus. There are more "clues" and possible targets for tinnitus than for congenital diseases, other kinds of chronic pain, and nerve or brain damage / other neurological conditions.

i know they have a treatment thats called aut00063 but its still in phase I so they acually have not tested it on people with tinnitus so we wont even know if it treats or cures tinnitus until we see the results of Phase II u think this drug will help us tinnitus suffers? and since its so long away ill prob have cronic tinnitus will it help people with cronic tinnitus? cause i have had tinnitus for 3 month and 2 days so pre post tinnitus in 2 more months if i still have this stupid thing im gonna try y best to get on some Retigabine or trobalt whatever is available ill beg my GP to let me try this stuff and tell him i would rather have my tinnitus supressed or cured with Retigabine and not care whatsoever about the side effects look at mpt in the Retigabine thread he/she was cured from tinnitus cause of Retihabine so i dont see why a doctor would decline something that acually helps tinnitus and a possible cure

Read benryus posts about chronic T and that it doesnt matter one little bit. Chronic just means you had it for a year or more, nothing else. The memorization theory ( not proven) is only a bullshit theory and will be unproven when they get some drugs out such as autifony and test it on chronic users. And chronic can be reversible just might take more time then say accute. Read all about plascity and all that crap.. And if you really wanna feel like theres hope just read all of beneyus posts on this site, everything he said is positivity and hes a smart guy. Hes the one that gave me hope!!!!! AND YESSSS THIS WILL BE CURED!!! Sooner then later. 1 billion in veteran disability---- they predict by 2017 a hearing epedemic. The researchers and scientists are bein smart now and actually tryin to take care of the issue before it happens otherwise by 2030 half the world will have T or a hearing issue :)

We can hope, but NO ONE really has a clue until it happens. We can speculate all day here at TT....Makes for good conversation but thats about it.

I think it can obviously, and I think it will be-- the one thing that concerns me with trials is that people are given the drug for a long enough period-- I had great improvement after 1 month, but it took two months basically to get to the point where I would consider myself cured-- only in the past few weeks has it been at the point that I literally never hear it under any circumstances

I'm with Grace on this ,what she wrote is spot on ,look at drugs they use for certain diseases, there finding it now works on other diseases ,with a bit of tweaking to formulas they're using .
Who knows it could just be round the corner, yes and researchers are getting savvy to tinnitus ,with how many in the world have this condition .
Yes it's hard to get through a day with it,but I never give up my hope that this day could just be the day I will hear those Magic words on the news Break through in the cure for tinnitus .
Look how long some of us have had it ,and more health issues to cope with daily, add on's as I call them ,but i still think this could be the day ,month ,year .Keeps me going on my worsest of days .Never say never, the saying goes .
Now service personnel in there droves suffering with it ,got to be a turn around soon ,Goverments will have to sit up and take notice ,and act .Maybe they are already ,but we won't know it ?
I'm sat here ,screaming ears ,balance bad ,but I know I will get through another day.
Keep looking ahead ,not always back ,I do have to check myself sometimes to do exactly that .
      Best wishes

It'll be cured some day. Perhaps a way to turn the volume down will come first. The rate at which science and technology advances It's inevitable. The only question is when.

I think as T becomes more prevalent, especially in this noisy era with ipod ear abuse abound, the interest in solving the condition will rise. It's bound to be a financial goldmine for whoever cracks it.

If they are right and T is a brain issue, then personally I think advances in neurology will be key to eliminating T.

I think pretty much most scientists agree chronic tinnitus is a brain/neurological problem. Brain problems are tough to cure for many reasons; problem of drug delivery through the blood barrier, disastrous potential side effects with treatments and drugs, etc. Patients and families with diseases like MS, Alzheimer's, Parkinsons have been advocating for cures for decades. They still are waiting.

But I do think greatly advanced treatments based on real science are getting very close for tinnitus, now that the neurological community is involved, and will bring us relief. Or so I hope. As @Telis says, none of us know for sure.

i got another question been looking around is tinnitus a common problem in TMJ people? i see everywhere people have tinnitus in 2 ear i only have it in 1 ear and that usally means there is something making my tinnitus so i gotta find the underline condition if u have it in 2 ears then its from noise induced trauma to the ear or ototoxicity and if u have it in 1 ear then its just a underlining cause that u gotta fix

With cochela being so small and complicated Its hard to believe that anything can be fixed there.
It is phenomenal machine, unfortunately inaccessible by today's technologies.
Yes, you can only get inside and break it. At such a microscopic level it would be nice to know the meaning of the dna code so we could send the correct repair signal to either brain or the inner ear.

      Hello friends,

There seem to be 400 different ways to get T. But everything is linked to the Auditory nerve I understand. I justhope our brilliant scientists are able to come up with a cure all medicine to relax this particular nerve permanently or atleast at night when we are trying to sleep<!

IT will be stem cell .I truly think it is comming soon.but the nerves are either damaged or chemically out of balance so it could be medicine to cure it but stem cell could help if it is cochlear damage .It is complicated but when it comes to fixing a multi cause problem there is a part by part solve for each cause so mabe hair in cochlear restored first then nerve regeneration next ect. some cases go away but I think that is mind stress related T when there is a physical problem then you have to fix it .THE human body is amazing it will habituate eventually to T so its not a cure but a cope with mind over matter for now . soon soon soon
it will happen cures mike (uncle vikin)

    22. WILL THERE BE A CURE? I have often posted that I would expect some kids of cure for some of us in the next 5 to 10 years. With a new product being trialled or released almost weekly and the vast amounts of money being spent on R&D, surely one has to be found sooner or later?

Don't know when or what but I do know if and the answer is yes.
Seriously though it's different things for different people, but the day we get something on the brain is the day Tinnitus loses it's shit.

Of course tinnitus can be cured. And it will be.

But It must be stressed that will never be a "cure" for everyone. We all have different forms of T. Some, like mine, are due to acoustic trauma. Others were because of SSRIs, TMJ, Physical trauma, etc. Various treatments will help with various forms of T.

There are many hopeful avenues of research. Also there are probably some discoveries that will be made accidentally over the next few years. Stem cell therapy and gene therapy are likely the most promising avenues for hearing regeneration (which might cure certain forms of T). We are also learning more about the brain every year.

Phantom limb pain research is very similar to T research, any advances made in that area should also lead to discoveries that will be beneficial to T sufferers (in the case of noise induced T). Anti-epileptics and anti-depressants are currently among the most effective treatment methods for phantom pain (sound familiar?).

Either way..cure or no cure...more effective treatment methods and pharmacological solutions are certainly just around the corner. This is a HUGE potential market for big pharma and they are very aware of it.

    29. There is never going to be a one cure all option, that is imposable, BUT I am sure over the next 5 to 10 years many of us will find a cure. I am guessing but people who are deaf will be the hardest to cure. I am busy working and helping people find one now FOR FREE :)
