One evening in loud place with earplugs, and now it's been 1,5 months of hell. I was basically cured already. What a stupid thing to do.

Despite knowing better, we do make poor decisions. It's our human condition to be among others and connect – to feel alive. It's in our nature, and it always wins.
Actually had an acoustic reflex test performed during the tympanometry test that I was not informed of. "Informed consent". Went up to 95db. New, high-pitched electrical current noise.

I am so sorry. I was also a victim of this test, nearly 5 years ago.

Thank you for your sympathy, I appreciate it a lot. How are you doing these days?
my sister yelled directly into my right ear. it was the first time for me that sound caused immediate ear pain, and it hurt alot. (the pain in my face/jaw today was bad, like most days. Woke up with my right ear and tmj hurting) My life is ruled by pain. I am filled with so much anger right now. I don't want to feel this way, i hate that too!
@Tryn2BHopeful - hey old friend. Miss talking to you. I'm exposing more and more at the cost of louder T. No concerts and stuff but the bare minimum to live. I feel like I need to learn to live with it no matter how loud. I just can't get over people that have it and still go to concerts. I am doing better with it but it's always a step ahead of me getting worse.
Tryn2BHopeful
I understand. Glad you are doing better with it. I feel defeated today. I don't recognize the person I the mirror. Disheveled and sad looking. My life reached it's peak 2 years ago and now it's in a downward spiral. I was doing well and I guess i wasn't deserving.
4Grace
You are not alone. You are deserving. Honestly, I'm not doing better. I go bike riding to distract and each ride makes it louder. Can't work or be around family .. can't even be around my daughter. I have not been able to speak due to pain for over a year.
4Grace
It's interesting that i was so happy and I too came to the conclusion that I was undeserving. I am in church 3 times a day praying. Food impacts mine almost more then additional sound. Every breath is hard. This am it's louder then ever. My left ear feels like there is a spike in it. We are so deserving. Happy Father's Day.
i read over the after visit summary my doctor wrote. She wrote that i have cervical and lumbar spondylosis.......
I DO NOT HAVE CERVICAL AND LUMBAR SPONDYLOSIS. I have x rays and mri's that prove otherwise! I already knew I wasn't going to go back to her again because she literally has not helped me getting to the cause of all my pain, but what the actual fuck???
Marina Moon
The NP wrote down that my low back pain was suspect due to "thoracolumbar spondylosis." They cannot make a bold claim like that especially since I had X-rays done of all three sections of my spine that showed healthy discs and spaces between them. I do have scoliosis and forward head posture, but there was no indication of degeneration or osteoarthritis. Should I make a complaint to them?
Marina Moon
The NP aslo wrote that I have BILATERAL arm pain. I do not. I literally told them so many times, and drew so many pictures on the human diagrams they've given me, that I have only left arm pain. I remember she was really cold to me during the visit, so it's confirmed that she really wasn't listening to me at all. You don't write FAKE symtpoms in for a patient.
I saw another ENT specialist. He has recommended that I undergo a myringotomy to drain the fluid that has been sitting behind my ear drums for many years (pending the results of a new hearing test). He is curious of whether or not if ear tubes will help me.
ciprodex
anyone here with tinnitus du to ciprodex
Ken219
Ciprodex can cause tinnitus, according to the FDA DailyMed website and user reports on Drugs.com. Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, is listed as a possible side effect. Some users have reported mild to severe tinnitus after using Ciprodex for ear infections.
angiediazr
Yes i have severe T due to those eardrops
Few days ago my ears felt like they can handle anything. Today, even rustle of paper feels uncomfortable. What a ridiculous condition this is. Totally ridiculous.
cjbhab
it is totally non-sensical. Sometimes just the water in the shower is too loud for me and painful- other days it is totally relaxing.
S
@cjbhab Exactly. Sometimes I go to shower and when I leave, I am like "wow, so relaxing, it's almost silent". Then other days "OMG why did I go to take a shower, I made it worse again!" Annoying. It would be very nice to know the reason why it behaves like that.
Anyone have any weird sensations following a tympanometry test (a typical part of a hearing exam to test middle ear condition)? I feel some fullness in my ears, and my tinnitus seems aggravated.
I've developed distortion/ringing in my right ear every time I talk or when I hear other voices. I can't tell if it's reactive T or hyperacusis. Either way, it's so annoying.
Wanted to provide an update on my TTTS/MEM vibrations in my right ear. After pretty much nonstop for 12ish weeks, they just stopped about a week ago. The ONLY change? I took 2-3 doses of Ubrelvy (CGRP inhibitor) that the Neurologst wanted me to try to see if it would help with tinnitus and reactivity.
ECP
That's great news! Does your neurologist think your ear symptoms are actually a type of migraine disorder? And did you ever try taking B2 and magnesium according to the clinical protocol?
cjbhab
TTTS is totally horrible. I have had some crazy bouts over the past few years. It seems random.
chatgpt says youtube narrowband sound therapy like cicadas is shit for your hyperacusis and t... always use low level broadband. what do you think?
vilebubbles
I got a lot worse while using cricket videos but was also driving and trying to live normally with reactive T so I can't say if that was a factor.
S
Do not use any kind of sound therapy videos or sounds for hyperacusis treatment. Just live as normal life as you can (avoiding loud places of course). Time will get rid of it. Took me 4 years.
Had an extremly important meeting and my coworker had borrowed my "portable speaker microphone" and hadnt return it so had to sit in a room with 5 coworkers with the laptop speakers on max trying to have a meeting. Man those laptopspeakers is like a drill in the ear, i handled it for 5 minutes then i had to go back and get earplugs to continue the meeting. Having a spike hope i didnt screw up.
MindOverMatter
No, you didnt screw up man. You need to stop the circle of worry. I know 100% where you are coming from. Those sounds are not good to me either with their thinny, high frequent soundscape. But honestly, the worst thing that will happen with this, is ear fatigue and a shortlived spike (if that). Your pattern of reaction makes more damages to your nervous system than this sound.
D
I can feel that. It was some truly good times that there were no piercing sounds for the ears, back with no T/H...
Sodlin
The spike ended very quickly. (i got a very huge spike from something else tho that i cant really pinpoint but i think its from sitting and something muscle related). After the speaker incident spike subsided i actually been doin pretty good. Tinnitus still roars as loud as possible but for some reason my mind dont seems to "care" so much.
Hello. I took a couple of hours to review your messages today. A horrible chronicle but so relieved that you found the strength to carry on.
Got exposed to 90-100db for several minutes before I could get my earplugs in at a work event in a "Barn"... Praying no damage was done... but I never really know for 2-4 days until after exposure if something happened for some reason.
W
More than likely not a problem. It's simply not loud enough and long enough to cause lasting damage.
Eric N
You survived a molar grind down I really wouldn't worry about anything else at this point :p
Hi Kam75, I'm shocking ignorant about computers. I think you added a lot to the dialogue with JoeCync... could you explain to me what "following you" means?
Sorry that I'm so ignorant.

Kam75
Hi Joeseph Stope! To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what following someone on Tinnitus Talk means in practical terms either 😅 I think it's just a way of quickly finding a forumer you've had an interesting interaction with.
I also appreciated what you've said in Tom Cnyc thread that's why I followed you.
Best wishes!
How are things going with you? Still doing no muffs?
in_the_shadows
My experiment without earmuffs wasn't successful, I had crazy bouts of reactive tinnitus, but they subsided. I figured I need to do it gradually. But still, I've had tons of other spikes down the road and none of them were noise induced, my tinnitus is a pure chaos. How are you?
vilebubbles
I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm about the same as before.
How are things going now? I'm nearing the end of my taper, about 6 weeks left.
streifzug
congrats on your taper progress! my taper failed last year. i was down to 0,3mg from 0,5. i took benzos for 1,5 years at that point and i reinstated, because my tinnitus became unbearable, probably a big mistake. i should have waited it out, because reinstating did not help at all. ever since my tinnitus has been worsening every 2 weeks. (1)
streifzug
benzo tolerance and hyperexcitability of the nervous system. everything, even sport makes it worse. my nervous system can't stabilize. also my doctors so far were complete shit. no fucking clue about benzos or tinnitus. if i only had AI like deepseek three years earlier... i also suffer from schizophrenia and severe depression which complicates things. there is no surviving this. I am so sorry. This is awful. I wish I had advice.
Does anyone have recommendations for earplugs that won't break skin in your ear canal upon removal? I have had this issue with foam plugs from CVS lately and would find tears/blood in my ear after use (big yikes). Or maybe there's a quick fix to prevent that sort of problem?
W
I've never had this problem, but I bought a plastic bowl of Howard Leight plugs early on when I first experienced tinnitus. Seemed like the cheapest option and I just keep the small individual bags of it in places where I might need them.
AfroSnowman
I've used many earplugs never had this issue. Maybe you'd have success managing it as a skin care issue (dry, irritated, etc)?
Sodlin
Never had this problem and wear earplugs ALOT. Moldex 35 SNR earplugs are very gently tho and do ALOT of noise reduction so i would recommend them!
I had TMJ botox done 1 month ago and I'm so glad I did it. T is still here, but migraines and TMJ pain are gone!
Have a relaxing weekend everyone. This is a tough condition to endure, but together we can survive it. Remember, you are not alone.
Penicilins do not affect my tinnitus at all but ppi like pentoprazol do. Good to know !
Hopefully last night in the hospital. I can't wait to go back home and sleep in my bed with my cat
Nes
I also think I'm starting to develop an outer ear infection because of the constant protection. Good thing I'm already under antibiotics but it's stressing me out
kingsfan
Could just be irritation. It happens to me a lot.
