I think your fleeting tinnitus during the night was your brain deliberately acting to destroy these four tones. I think your brain is figuring this out. Just be careful of loud sounds; in a few months you could be in a very good place.

...good, with everything above 20 dB, but I cannot stop myself from thinking that in 10 years I might be deaf. I hope that does not happen. I could live with poor hearing and even a hearing aid, but the tinnitus, no, that is something I cannot handle. At least the fleeting tinnitus has stopped.

Fleeting Deafness Instead of Fleeting Tinnitus?

It actually seemed to settle down. I didn't have any of these episodes at all in the last month. I don't know what caused it, I think stress and psychological distress were factors and also inflammation.

Loud Tone for a Few Seconds — Fleeting / Transient Spontaneous Tinnitus

I just had fleeting T, and like almost any other fleeting T, it lasted for just a few seconds. However, this fleeting sound was of a different pitch from what I normally hear. Is it normal, even for fleeting T? I seriously am hoping there isn't anything more serious.

My Tinnitus Went Away After Wisdom Tooth Extraction — Now I'm Having Fleeting Tinnitus Episodes

@SarahMLFlemmer 'Fleeting T' is a sudden temporary tone that can last from a few seconds to a few hours. Your ear usually goes temporarily deaf when these occur. No one truly understands why they happen or the purpose they serve (if any). This has lead many to guess/hypothesise.

I Lost Hearing for a Moment and My Tinnitus in One Ear Suddenly Stopped for Hours

It seems to me that it was an episode of fleeting tinnitus or "SBUTT", where the fleeting tinnitus tone didn't start ringing at all, or it was so low in volume (essentially unnoticeable), or it got muffled quickly by whatever mechanism makes it start/finishes it.
