Okay so I wanted to see what alcohol's effect on the brain is because some people can lower or get rid of their T by drinking alcohol. According to Wikipedia, Ethanol does the following in the brain...
I woke up with tinnitus one day. The only thing I remember of what happened before is I had alcohol the night before, which is not something new for me.
It's been 2 months and the tinnitus is still there. It has come with so much stress and anxiety as I search the internet about it.
I don't...
...that’s the end of it. But the next day, the sound came back—much louder, higher pitched, and more sensitive to similar types of noise.
Can alcohol and drugs make it worse? I’ve been using both quite a bit as a way of coping. Any advice would be welcome.
Right now, I’m having a rum and coke...
I am on quetiapine for sleep. I am a recovering alcoholic with diabetic/alcoholic neuropathy (deep nerve death in feet) and recently severe tinnitus. In recent detox, I found that my tinnitus disappeared, I assume due to the calming effect of chlordiazepoxide (librium) in the detox. I wake...
Thanks for your responses. I’ve had a slight improvement since my last post.
I decided to give alcohol a break. It has been two weeks now, and the tinnitus has quietened down to a hiss and a low tone that I can only hear in a quiet room. The electric or static sensation in my head has gone. My...
...had a throat infection, which was followed by an ear infection with a lot of fluid in the inner ear. That’s when it all started.
I feel like alcohol helps, but it also causes intense spike moments, which scares me. Other things that seem to help are ibuprofen and prednisone. The doctors just...
I understand where your doctor's point is coming from, but there have been studies that show that alcohol can actually lead to shorter sleep duration and poorer quality of sleep, despite its sedative effects.

Do you drink alcohol and/or caffeinated beverages and do these affect your mood about tinnitus.

...to anyone else that understands what having tinnitus feels like. The ups and downs, the spikes, temporary deafness. Recently I've discovered that I actually have a lot of power over my tinnitus. I never knew reducing my alcohol, nicotine, salt and sugar intake would make such a massive...
...about five times a week, and I never had any ear issues, whether drinking or taking breaks. Since the ringing started, I have mostly avoided alcohol, only drinking on two nights over the last three weeks, and I did not notice any issues on those occasions.
Does this sound like a normal spike...
I don't think eating healthy can really heal it but I do notice that alcohol can make it louder. Apparently the alcohol can inhibit parts of the brain that would normally filter the noise down. I read this somewhere awhile back...
I still drink but not excessively. I personally no longer really...
Ok about 4 days ago I stopped drinking alcohol then a day later i noticed a buzzing/ringing sound coming from my ears or head. A day later I still had it so then i started drinking again but now today i still have this constant buzzing sound. I have not recently been exposed to any loud sounds...
Let's say you drank alcohol (safe amount of course) and then go immediately to bed. Do you wake up with lower tinnitus in the morning? Or is it louder or no change?
I like drinking wine in the evening; it helps me. I think it is not the alcohol that causes a spike but rather some substances in the specific wine. I can have a spike with some wines.
I appreciate your response, Michael. You have a lot of good information.
I am still curious though to see if eliminating alcohol does anything. I only drink socially so it does not bother me to eliminate it again.
Since alcohol is a neurotoxin and they seem to think chronic tinnitus lies more...
Honestly couldn't taste the alcohol. So I'm feeling fine & order another. At this point I don't realize I'm starting to get drunk. Alcohol is weird with me I go from 1 min of being fine & the next straight plastered.
...can see my muscle mass slowly decreasing. I work from home as much as possible and avoid going into the office when I can. I no longer drink alcohol or coffee, and I rarely speak to or see my friends anymore.
Gaming is about the only hobby that gets me through the days.
How about you? Has...
Alcohol seems to aggravate my tinnitus, but only the next day. It does place a demand on the liver to process. Within Chinese medicine, this would aggravate the liver meridian, and thereby increase tinnitus. I would think this could be explained in Western terms as well.
I believe there are...
Stupid Norwegians with their 7th place in the world happiness index and their free universal healthcare.
Not to mention their stupid laws that don't allow you to pilot a boat with over 0.08% alcohol in your blood.
I don't know how the world puts up with them!
It isn't the actual alcohol that spikes T , what spikes the T is the higher blood pressure that is caused by drinking . People who frequently drink will have higher blood pressure than people who seldomly drink or don't drink at all
Did your spike go away? I hope it did.
When it was at its worst, did you do anything specific to help improve it? For example, did you follow a restrictive diet or avoid caffeine and alcohol?
...tinnitus was entirely sound-related. It is strange how psychoactive drugs can seem to affect it in unexpected ways. I never had issues with alcohol or regular cannabis, but this experience has definitely given me a lot to think about.
I cannot say for certain that Delta 9 caused the spike...
@Juliane I'm doing okay. Tinnitus has been annoying me more lately. It could be that my tolerance has just gone down more. Yeah, I've always been really, really sensitive to alcohol. It's best I never touch it. Did you have a buzz going?
...started).
I had to endure the March lockdown mostly in bed with my broken leg and wearing a heavy cast.
Because of all of the above my alcohol consumption went down to zero after years of being a 'social drinker'.
Some people here have noticed that their tinnitus started after stopping...
...party where I drank a lot, volume seems to have subsided but the pitch and sound has changed to something I can't mask. Could this be an alcohol thing?? Has anyone had something similar??
If anyone has had something similar happen, or might have some answers as to what the HELL is...
...in 2011. It came on suddenly and traumatised me. I don't know the cause but I suspect it was partly related to the cessation of long term alcohol use and stress. The first year or so was the hell that people describe. I had very bad anxiety and sought counselling over Skype. It changed my...
...the motion of my fingers reflected in the ringing.
I’ve noticed that when I’m drunk, I don’t think about the tinnitus as much. So, maybe alcohol has some effect, but it’s hard to say for sure because a) I’m drunk at the time and b) other factors, like stress and pain, also influence the...
So I already posted about this on my profile a few days ago, but I'm trying to get this more visible. I'll also try my best to make sense as I have been having trouble stringing two thoughts together lately, which is what may have led to this whole mess.
I've been struggling mentally for many...
The only thing I consume that I can 100% say definitely affects my tinnitus is alcohol. It always spikes my tinnitus. Luckily I've never been a big drinker.
Robin Williams abused cocaine and alcohol for a very long time, and probably other substances, which certainly didn't help his mental or physical health.
...than a Benzo for inducing drowsiness. Only take occasionally and haven't built any tolerance. For me sometimes Benzos have the chance of producing a paradoxical reaction....a feeling like getting buzzed on alcohol: my skin gets kind of tingly and I get light headed but I'm fully amped up and...
Provided you drink alcohol in moderation, in most cases it will not affect noise-induced tinnitus which is what you have. In fact, it often has a beneficial effect on the tinnitus when used for medicinal purposes, as it helps to relax the mind and eases stress.
Please go to my started threads...
I would like to chime in here. I can say that alcohol definitely reduces my tinnitus temporarily. Whether that's an effect of the alcohol itself or a result of endorphine release after the initial alcohol "hit" that I find relaxing, I've no idea. But I've sank enough bottles at Beer o' Clock to...
So, I'm going through a tinnitus spike caused by a firecracker 6 days ago.
Do I need to avoid anything anti-inflammatory for like a month because it could help making the spike NOT permanent?
Would it be reckless to have 2 or 3 glasses of wine and a couple of cigarettes this weekend? Would I...
...a wedding last Saturday evening and spent most of the time in the lobby away from the music so it was just normal conversations and a lot of alcohol and a few dances with my wife. It was a low key wedding and you were able to talk normally without raising your voice And I was ok for a...
