Sounds like reactivity. The hiss is my worst enemy.

I’m the same. I used to be able to mask now my T harmonises to my masking sound.

It's absolutely shite @hopefuldede my old T was a dream compared to this!

I hear it mainly over things like white/pink noise, kettle boiling, toilet flushing and even the distant sound of the motorway has shimmering fast beeps over it almost like church bells from afar. Almost like diplacusis or something like that. So much terminology in regards to this. I also miss my old j bothersome barely audible T.

@Strawberryblonde What started the sound distortions or diplacusis for you? Was it an acoustic trauma? Or ETD/TMJ? (have you ever attempted treatment for these issues?)

@GG_Ear I assume it was from headphones but could also have been from my TMJ which can be chronic and/or ototoxic antidepressants. They've gotten better over time not as pronounced. Tried a mouthgaurd for TMJ but only stops teeth from grinding together, does not help the pain and ETD I've I've had checked despite suffering for a very long time, I've just got on with it.

Isn't high doses of salicylate given to mice and rodents to bring on tinnitus for research?

@DeanD apparently so! My 2am googling brought me to that also. I assume it'll have to be in high doses and not just the tiny amount I rubbed in my jaw area. :-/ feeling sorry for those mice!

I know the feeling when it gets a little worse again after improvement ): What happened? Any accoustic traumas or loud noise lately?

My days never get close to 80db for more than a few minutes on the walk to work. Played music on my phone but not loudly. Other than I cannot think of anything. Distortions are more prominent over sounds aswell. Really disheartening. @TheCapybara @DeanD

I know, it is so eerie. Why is it like that? Are we not allowed to think positively? It actually goes against the famous "law of attraction". Perhaps for T sufferers, it's the other way around (think shit and good stuff happens, think positive and shit happens)

Hey @Moni97 still have ups and downs but that comes with preexisting anxiety unfortunately. But other than that I've had good days and just living life as normal as I can now. This is here wether I like it or not. Hope you are well?

Definitely changes and goes to a higher pitch when I move my jaw and neck and goes to a high pitch static when I bend over.

@Strawberryblonde That's crazy! I don't think mine changes at all unless I open my mouth in front of the AC, and then I hear "shhh."

Thanks @sakrt but its definitely still loud when I tune into it as it used be as gentle as a whisper now its head buzzingly loud. Just learning very slowly not to let it get to me. But I really do hope it'll fade away one day again. It did it once before. :)

@hopefuldede combo of stupidly using earphones again, chronic anxiety and taking amitriptyline 5mg up to 25mg when I always swore I wouldn't. I don't think straight when feeling anxious unfortunately hence using earphones and antidepressants bit I was in a desperate place.

@RunningMan I'm usually OK sleep wise. When anxiety kicks in and the worry and negative thoughts spiral is when I struggle till I'm good again and then rinse and repeat.

I was bending over alot yesterday doing gardening and had a sharp pain and fullness in my right ear which evidently was the louder of the two last night. I assume its ETD playing a part. @hopefuldede

I have this problem also, any recommendations? What exercises can you link?

Can't link any exercises as it was just something I read. But alls I do is protrude my lower jaw forward from its resting position and keep it there for a few minutes a few times a day. Not sure if it's helping as of yet.

Have you been referred to a TMJ specialist? @in_LA

Normal audiogram up to 8khz but probably have high frequency loss past that. How are you faring with your T? @Mo8409

I’m sure we’ve discussed it, but have you done any therapy? My panic was bad and I did CBT and I been doing so much better. I have agoraphobia and panic disorder.

I've done CBT and still put it into practice but sometimes the anxiety is that great it's hard to get past whatever is going on in my mind, fighting it off is a battle for sure @SamRosemary

I try to have breaks, however short they are :) can't decide what's brought the reactivity back? Stress, jaw issues or my grandad being extra loud and dropping a fork on a tile floor, I was doing ok too :/ .Im an angry ginger now!!! Lol How are you @tpj ?

@ErikaS reactivity morse code beeping made a comeback from my grandad dropping a metal knife ontop a tile floor which radiated sound so loud i winced. So I hope it settles but trying not to worry now,there's nothing I can do about it. Thank you for your kind words as usual :)

@PennyCat thank you :) magnesium helps with my anxiety just seems to make T higher pitched :( can't win for trying lol

Yea it made mine but I took it to calm my nerves

@Strawberryblonde I know I’m late to this BUT magnesium also caused my T to pitch so I lowered the dose and just took a small dose three times a day and that seemed to help! Hope this helps :)
