Finding Courage to Travel: Plane Noise (Boeing 737-700?)

Currently at cruising altitude on a 737-900. Attached is a screenshot of the NIOSH iOS app using a Dayton Audio iMM-6 reference microphone. It measured about 89 dBA during takeoff. It is incredibly loud. I am wearing foam Hearos (32 NRR). Peltor X5A earmuffs do not perform any better than Bose...

    Altitude & Tinnitus

Has anyone notice a spike in perception of tinnitus after visiting a high altitude? I noticed my tinnitus worsen as soon as I arrived in the mountains and even now that I'm home at sea level 5 days later, the volume and intensity are way up. It could be that the mountains were so peaceful and...

Should I Go to the Mountains? Worried About the Altitude Worsening Tinnitus / Hyperacusis

Thinking about a week in the mountains. I am worried about the altitude which is around 5 800 feet above sea level (1 600 meters). When I fly, I wear foam earplugs and earmuffs for takeoff and landing and foam earplugs and noise-canceling headphones at cruising altitude.

In-Cabin Noise Level of Wide-Body Aircraft — Airbus A380 the Quietest

You can change altitude until you feel your ears "clog" (it happens frequently on a mountain drive), and then swallow or yawn. That should relieve the pressure as the 2 sides of the ear drum equalizes. If that doesn't happen with you, you may have a problem.

Tinnitus Volume Lowers Drastically or Disappears When Traveling to Higher Altitude

There is a connection. The ear drum separates the air pressure between yourself and the outside environment. Air pressure decreases as your altitude increases and vice-versa. This is precisely why people’s ears “pop” when going up and down in an airplane. The airplane is pressurized up to 8,000...
