I use it everyday, i don't get spikes from it. I highly doubt that methyl salicylate is actually ototoxic. More than likely your bad neck and shoulders.
Hello Ernesto,
Thanks for your posts. I'm about to start Neurofeedback. May I ask which kind of side effects did you experience?
Thanks for your answers :)
Kindly,
Arnaud
...Firstly it started only in left ear. Hissing would come and go for a while and then come back again. It was still manageable with occasional spikes. Then I become guinea pig for doctors trying me on lots of different medication mostly benzos for my worsening insomnia. My tinnitus become more...
...if a siren is nearby. Sometimes, earplugs and earmuffs cause discomfort because I’m just that sensitive.
I think most people experience spikes from it; it should go down, though, but who knows. A lot of people here suggest taking an NAC pill or Magnesium bisglycinate. You could search the...
...just like regular salt, but you do need to be cautious not to consume too much of it.
I’ve also read that some people experience tinnitus spikes after eating high amounts of protein, such as large servings of steak, shrimp, fish, or even drinking protein powders. I’ve experienced this myself...
I will experience spikes under 2 specific conditions regardless of any hearing protection. I will always spike if the car rides last for more than 30+ minutes and primarily when most of the driving takes place on the highway/freeway. I can easily detect the contrast in the amplification of my...
The oddest thing is I get this crazy high pitched pulsating spike whenever I go into my bedroom. It only pulsates or goes to the high of a pitch in my bedroom. Nobody of course hears anything odd. I got a sound meter and the sound level is the same as other rooms. fan, sound machine...
Does anyone's tinnitus seem to spike after a meal?
Mien sure does.
It seems the bigger the meal the bigger the spike.
It was miserably loud then I just ate a large meal, and holy crap!
Is anyone affected by eating cheese? I like Swiss cheese on whole grain bread but my tinnitus seems to go through the roof after I eat some. I can't believe just cheese could make the volume rise that much and so quickly.
...it. Stay positive and healthy, maintain a low salt intake, spend time outdoors, and cherish life during good and bad days. Remember, spikes in tinnitus will almost always decrease. Don't panic. Remind yourself that it will improve. Don't hesitate to try medication to help cope with any spike...
@gameover I do not have hyperacusis; however, I would not consider the tinnitus stable. I am constantly getting spikes for no reason. What kind of work are you doing, I do not find that work necessarily distracts me from T.
No, he means more likely temporary - i.e. a temporary spike.
Most spikes often return to baseline after a couple of days, or reset themselves during sleep.
...exposure. It’s now a little less high-pitched, but the bigger challenge is that I can’t seem to mask it properly anymore.
When my tinnitus spikes, it feels like central tinnitus with a rattling sensation. Additionally, my left ear has been noticeably different since my last dose of NAC.
I’m...
Hello all. I am now into my ninth month now with the T and have from about six weeks ago started on the TRT direction, I have a little in canal hearing aid that has been set to pick up the slight hearing loss I have in the high frequency area, whole idea here is of course eventual habituation as...
...the spike feel more worse. Take the preventative supplement measures if that might helped (vitamin C, E, A, NAC, etc) and lay low for while. Protect your ears if need be.
This could be just a temporary spike that will settle in the next upcoming weeks. Rooting for you to get better. Spikes sux
still very new to this, but was actually doing pretty well the last 2 days. I didn't really sleep well since last Tuesday averaging 3 - 4 hours a night, but Saturday I came home from work and basically willed myself to take about a 4 hour nap, then went to bed early and felt pretty refreshed...
@Mo8409 I agree, spikes in tinnitus can be really annoying. I wish mine would remain steady, but I've learned over the course of a year that certain activities like long car rides or anything that resonates with the engine frequency tend to cause temporary spikes for me. Additionally, my...
I do not believe I suffer from hyperacusis, but definitely have recruitment. It seems every time I have a tinnitus spike or a worsening, my sound sensitivity increases. Once either the spike decreases or I begin to habituate to the new level, my sensitive seems to decrease and the cycle...
According to Dr. Shore's Q&A, from what I can recall, she could only contribute one "worsening" to her device. Other factors were present in the other cases, and I'm not sure any of them were permanent worsenings, just spikes.
At first sound therapy was so annoying. Still had to use it to sleep. Now can’t sleep without it. I was thinking of getting in ear noise generators but now all noises beginning to cause spikes. Round and round we go :)
This is good. Hopefully this trend will continue for you. Try not to be discouraged if at some point it spikes. They are a common occurrence and can takes days sometimes weeks to subside. Wishing you all the best!
This is an interesting thread and shows how food, drink, supplements, medication, etc., have different effects on our tinnitus, as mine spikes when drinking alcohol.
This happens almost instantly (within thirty minutes) and happens everytime.
It would stand to reason that alcohol would reduce...
...my tinnitus disappears and is usually much lower the next day. When I go on holiday and drink every day, it stays low, and it's wonderful. Unfortunately, when I stop, it spikes for a few days. But sometimes, the respite is worth the spike. I'm lucky to have an out for those days when you need it.
I've not researched it heavily, but seems Covid induced T tends to go away, so hopefully some applies to spikes. Seems you made a tremendous progress previously, there is hope...
Dear All,
Having tinnitus means having to cope with spikes, and avoiding that the spike gets permanent.
My protocol:
As soon as possible after onset, when you assess it is a spike (e.g. went to a restaurant, discotheque, fireworks, blast):
Take 60 mg of Prednisolone / Methylprednisolone...
...Magnesium and quitting smoking made it a lot better. I did another hearing test & tympanometry, and everything looks alright. I have started to believe it is something from my neck, spine, or jaw, but it's just an assumption. I'm generally better, but on some days, I have spikes for no reason.
...in both ears, though thinking I'm just getting myself paranoid at this point.
I'm worried because I hear most people saying that temporary spikes settle within 48-72 hrs usually, while mine has stayed elevated going on 2 weeks now, and I'm hoping I'm not messing up by not getting in to...
@DesertRain My symptons are really mild compared to what you and others experienced. Apart from certain noise that spikes my T to 3/10 for a short time, nothing really affects my T(in a bad way), be it sudden loud noise, food or anything else. I'm also able to listen to music to some extent...
I use Gabapentin whenever my hyperacusis pain spikes. It always helps even in small dosages (max 3x 100 mg daily). It lowers my tinnitus only slightly.
...consult an ENT if you want to be sure.
Your best bet is to protect your ears and wait it out. You could try taking some vitamins that are good for your ears, but those may not help much or at all. I've heard of long-lasting spikes. It's best to try to stay as calm as you can and nurture your...
Hi @Andrew40 , unfortunately I am progressively getting worse. But don't let this bring you down. I am just one of the worst cases out there. Good thing is people like me are not that many. My tinnitus is super reactive and spikes when I simply scratch my head or take a breath. It has 20+ tones.
The spikes and set backs are when we have to be our strongest. It’s hard to find the words because I know how it feels. You sacrifice so much then a moment can set you back. It will probably settle. Please give it some time.
...to it. Right now, I am dealing with a spike caused by going to a concert, even though I used ear protection. It has been rough and depressing, but I have had spikes before and know that, eventually, things will either calm down or I will adjust to a new normal.
Hang in there, it does get better.
That’s a good example of what I mean. If it actually was 90 dB and your hearing protection was applied correctly, there can't have been any physical damage to your ears. Either it was not really 90 dB (a-weighted measurements don’t show the real noise exposure), the hearing protection was not...
...I own a 900cc Triumph, and it's fairly loud, although I always wear a helmet. However, I don’t use earplugs. After riding, my tinnitus spikes slightly but eventually returns to what I perceive as a moderate level—not severe, but not mild either. It seems to be a combination of the wind noise...
Stop being paranoid freaks. Viagra increases nitric oxide which increases blood vessel dilation. Just like physical exercise can cause tinnitus spikes, so might this.
Pull yourselves together and live your best life.
...Glycinate and L-Threonate (Magtein) for over a year now since discovering their benefits for the ears.
I can happily report that I’ve had no spikes whatsoever related to taking them. I try to take Magtein more often since it can cross the blood-brain barrier, but I run out of it more...
I’ve had noise-induced tinnitus since 2016.
It’s generally been fine, except for occasional spikes.
But since December 14, it doesn’t seem to go away completely. Well, it does subside, but then it comes back again at night.
I’m not sure why this has suddenly happened, but I’ve been feeling...
Going through (what I hope is) a high pitched spike of my own. When the pitch gets even higher it always worries me more, as my spikes are usually volume related.
Hope your spike subsides soon. Crazy that in the year 2023 this is still a thing.
For benzo, I take 0.5 mg Lorazepam (Ativan) every third morning as of a few weeks ago. For sleep, I've been taking low dose zolpidem sublingual overnight about 20 months. It sounds like you need to try a different med if Trazodone spikes you.
I eat a clean, low-sodium diet and weigh 163lbs. Despite trying everything, I'm still figuring out how to get better days. I backed off vitamins a year ago. Maybe I should try them again; tinnitus makes you think the air you breathe spikes it.
I have had spikes lasting a month or more. The last spike I had from the dentist lasted only around a week. Another time more recently I had a crown and pin drilled out, which was the loudest, most obnoxious sound ever. I'm amazed I didn't get a spike, but I had discussed taking gaps during...
...me to tell if I’m spiking or not from these things.
If I’m being honest, I’m not particularly worried about supplements potentially causing spikes. After trying so many of them, the results have been consistent across the board except for NAC — it hasn't had any noticeable effect on my...
@RunningMan I understand completely! I don't think I'll even be going back because it just seemed to be louder then I'd like to listen to. I don't have hearing damage. So can sound cause spikes?! I have mild hyperacusis as well.
Growing up, I've always had some form of anxiety and it wasn't until a few months back that I decided to see a therapist for it. I got diagnosed with moderate anxiety, but never went back to the therapist or went on medication for it because I believed that I could fix it/keep it under control...
...Busphar. I wish I never touched it. I'm sorry your T isn't giving you a break. Mines super loud today. I only slept an hour last night. I think I'd be able to manage if it weren't for the spikes. I'm almost tempted to take an Ativan. It would be the first time ever I ever took anything for...
