40 dB hearing loss at 8 kHz is not minor. You should try hearing aids. They can be very beneficial for tinnitus.

What was the trajectory of your hyperacusis? It has presumably improved? Over what duration?

I tried a set for one hour, to play some sound enrichment quietly. Now for the past 3 weeks I have had a tremendous setback, catastrophic tinnitus 70% of the time, pushing me closer to suicide than ever. If one has reactivity and/or hyperacusis, I'd strongly recommend not trying hearing aids.

Most hearing aids are only good up to 8 kHz. If your hearing loss is in the high frequencies (as is mine), hearing aids will be useless.

I didn't know my hearing was as bad as it was until I tried the hearing aids. If you do try them, make sure you try the pair and not just one hearing aid for one ear.

Implants and prostethics can never be substitutes for natural hearing. The day natural restoration comes, the market for hearing aids and implants will definitely go down.
