Why Does Alcohol Make Tinnitus 5-10x Louder?

I am not talking about the hangover after a loud night. But when I drink, I have much louder tinnitus that night, even if I dont pay attention to it. I also do not go to loud places. Should not drinking basically lower the tinnitus as you wouldn't pay so much attention to it? For me it is just...

Yeah, everyone is different, and with different meds, also supplements/food/alcohol/thc/cbd. And sometimes, I'm not even sure if something is affecting my tinnitus because it has a good range of variability normally. I did feel I had more chirping tones from Sertraline followed by Lexapro.

Tinnitus without Clear Cause — Related to Stress or Depression?

Hi @Orba -- I don't know if you're aware, but there's a connection between supplementing GABA (a calming brain neurotransmitter) and alcohol. Alcohol consumption increases GABA levels, which leads to slower reaction times, and a host of other brain and neurological functions. So if alcohol...

What cracks me up about Trump is he couldn't sell gambling, football, steak or alcohol to Americans FFS. And his knowledge of magnetism is amazing: "All I know about magnets is this, give me a glass of water, let me drop it on the magnets, that’s the end of the magnets." What a loser.

Why Does Alcohol Seem to Reduce the Severity of My Tinnitus? Coincidence or Not?

"Alcohol is believed to mimic GABA's effect in the brain, binding to GABA receptors and inhibiting neuronal signaling. Alcohol also inhibits the major excitatory neurotransmitter, glutamate, particularly at the N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) glutamate receptor."

Sudden Hearing Loss Gave Me Tinnitus and Took My Life Away

I reduced the Mirtazapine back down to 15 mg, but it's not working now. The tinnitus blares and fills my whole head (I need 60+ dB level sound to even match it now when sound therapy in the 40s dB was enough before), and sleep just doesn't come unless I drink alcohol or take Clonazepam.

Why Does Alcohol Seem to Reduce the Severity of My Tinnitus? Coincidence or Not?

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, and in smallish quantities a relaxant. So that in itself would help w/ tinnitus. But one has to distinguish between drinking a small amount of alcohol and getting sloshed. We build up tolerance to it and any drug pretty quickly. Alcohol in...
