    I think (from experience) this your Eustachian Tube. The mechanism that opens your tubes is...

    ...yawning and chewing. Also if you are pushing your jaw forward or simulating a closed mouth yawn. The crackle noise is that the tubes are inflamed and have fluid trapped within it.     I didn't see Allegra-D listed as ototoxic on the websites I looked at. FWIW, I have bad seasonal allergies, and sinus issues in general, and have been taking Benadryl for 20-30 years at night. Never had any issues w/ tinnitus and it definitely helps me sleep better.
